"Abba, Father!" - Hymn For December 6

"Abba, Father!" "Abba, Father!" We approach Thee In our Savior's precious Name; We, Thy children, here assembled, Now Thy promised blessing claim; From our sins His blood hath washed us, 'Tis through Him our souls draw nigh, And Thy Spirit, too, hath taught us, "Abba, Father," thus to cry. Once as prodigals we wandered In our folly far from Thee, But Thy grace, o'er sin abounding, Rescued us from misery; Thou Thy prodigals hast pardoned, Kissed us with a Father's love, Spread the festive board, and called us, E'er to dwell with Thee above. Clothed in garments of salvation, At Thy table is our place, We rejoice, and Thou rejoicest, In the riches of Thy grace; "It is meet," we hear Thee saying, "We should merry and be glad, I have found My once lost children, Now they live who once were dead." "Abba, Father!" all adore Thee, All rejoice in Heav'n above, While in us they learn the wonders Of Thy wisdom, gr...

The Alabaster Box - Poem/Devotional Thought for Oct 18

The Alabaster Box (Mark 14:1-9) She did it; she broke it, there was no turning back. It was all or nothing; now the box was forever cracked. The ointment was poured forth, diffused throughout the room. Jesus’ body had been anointed, prepared for burial in the tomb. It was an offering of love and devotion to her Lord, But He remembered it forever, recorded in His Word. It wasn’t broken for show, only Jesus knew her heart. But as the spikenard flowed out, the aroma filled every part. The good work has been done, but there’s a lesson to learn: In all of life’s opportunities, now it’s my turn. The alabaster box of my heart was broken one day. On the altar of service, there the precious ointment lay. Dedicated to my Lord – fervent and sincere. I gave it all to Him, and the cost was dear. The sacrifice was offered, well-pleasing to God. I presented it with tears, and a soul that was awed. Thank You, Lord, for Your plan that includes even me. And in reasonable service, my life is broken for T...

Himself - Poem For Oct 16

Himself Once it was the blessing, now it is the Lord; Once it was the feeling, now it is His Word; Once His gifts I wanted, now the Giver own; Once I sought for healing, now Himself alone. Once 'twas painful trying, now 'tis perfect trust; Once a half salvation, now the uttermost; Once 'twas ceaseless holding, now He holds me fast; Once 'twas constant drifting, now my anchor's cast. Once 'twas busy planning, now 'tis trustful prayer; Once 'twas anxious caring, now He has the care; Once 'twas what I wanted, now what Jesus says; Once 'twas constant asking, now 'tis ceaseless praise. Once it was my working, His it hence shall be; Once I tried to use Him, now He uses me; Once the power I wanted, now the Mighty One; Once for self I labored, now for Him alone. ~A.B. Simpson~

Arise, And Come Away - Devotional For Oct 12

I had an opportunity to preach last night. My sermon was called Arise, And Come Away, based mostly on Song Of Solomon 2:8-17. If you are interested in watching the sermon on Youtube, here is the link: Sermon On Youtube The preaching starts at about the 19 minute mark. I think it went ok for my first time preaching in a long time, but the audio is not very loud. Feel free to leave input in the comment section - as long as it is constructive criticism. If you are interested in reading the original study that I adapted and added to last night instead, here is the link for that: Arise, And Come Away

God Is - Poem for Sept 28

God Is This poem is a bit long, but it is soooo encouraging! You can read the poem and listen to it being presented in church, if you'd like, by visiting this link below: God Is I hope that it is a blessing to you too.

The Lord Is My Song - Devotional for Sept 27

The Lord Is My Song The following comes from the Introduction to my poetry blog,  Songs In The Night , but I wanted to post it on my study site as well - for a challenge to each of us to have music that glorifies the Lord: The name is based on the following passages: Job 35:10  But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night. Psalms 42:8  Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. Psalms 77:6  I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search. I have found through personal experience that only the Lord Himself can give songs in the night - only He can give His perfect (complete) peace and joy to His children in the midst of their trials and sorrows. It is only through Him that songs can spring up out of troubled hearts - and it is those same songs that truly can touch and minister ...
