Choosing To Guard My Heart And Mind - Poem For Nov 9

Choosing To Guard My Heart And Mind I made a covenant with my eyes, Upon virtuous things my mind is stayed; When temptation comes a-calling, The decision has already been made. Like prisoners of war, I’ve taken captive The thoughts that roam this land; When an invading army comes to battle, I know, I’ve already made my stand. Though I am walking in the flesh, I choose not to war that way; Your Word is hidden in my heart, Before the enemy comes to stay. I give all my cares to my Captain, And He gives me His peace within; Guarding my heart in this warfare - In Jesus, the victory I will win. I will put on Your whole armour - Claim each promise that I find; With the helmet of salvation, I know Your Word will guard my mind. I will think upon things that are lovely, That are just, and that are true; And keep on following my Commander In everything that I say and do. November 9th, 2023 Jerry Bouey Job 31:1  I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? 2 Corinthia...

The Song Of The Redeemed - Devotional For Nov 1

The Song Of The Redeemed I like it when something in a passage gets explained and it opens up. I’m sure I knew some of this before (though this old brain gets forgetful), but it struck me more today. Rahab , when used as a symbol through the Old Testament, refers to Egypt. Now read this: Isaiah 51:9-10  Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over? God defeated Egypt and made it so His people - the redeemed - could pass over the Red Sea to go to the Promised Land/Jerusalem (well, what would one day be called Jerusalem/Mount Zion). Now read the next verse which most of us probably know as a song. Literally, it refers to the nation of Israel; spiritually it applies to all God's people being delivered from their old mast...

Called - Poem For Oct 31

Called You were washed in the blood of the precious Lamb. You were sanctified by the great I Am. You were justified in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. You were cleansed inside by His sacred Word. You were purchased by the Holy Spirit in you. You were called forth from the world - now you, Whom Jesus Christ loved, died for, rescued and saved, So in the Book of Life your name would be engraved - Run in such a way as to earn the prize: Play to win. In the race for eternity, dear friend, Let the games begin. September 16th, 1993 Jerry Bouey 1 Corinthians 6:11, 20  And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God... For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27  Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striv...

Lift Up Their Hands - Poem For Oct 27

Lift Up Their Hands Lift up the hands that have fallen down, Oh, my brethren, strengthen the feeble knees… But what if it’s your hands that have grown weaker, What if it’s you that falters in times like these? What if your hands are feeling too heavy for you, What if the burdens you carry seem too much to bear, What if your soul is overwhelmed by your own struggles, Where are those dear friends to lift you up in prayer? Lord Jesus, bring an Aaron alongside their path, To walk beside them and lift up their hands. They’re faltering and weary and feel so weak - They need a comforter to help them to stand. A friend who can stand in the gap for Your people, To lift up their spirits when they wander from home, A brother to bring them before the throne of God; To help them remember where their true strength comes from. Let me be that servant that will petition for them, Who will hold up their hands through the long dark night, Let me be the warrior that comes alongside, To help them to ...

Searching For Truth - Poem For Oct 15

Searching For Truth I’m searching for answers from a heart that’s distraught, Wondering at the truth of all I have been taught; Does it line up with God’s Word – is it right after all? So afraid of confusion and the danger I’ll fall. Praying for wisdom, for perfect peace in my mind; Tangled up by these threads, wanting them to unwind; Desiring to do Your will, determined in my heart – From Your Word, I can tell that’s the only place to start. In the fear of the Lord, I have examined my way; Vowing to seek Your wisdom at the start of each day; Faced with all these choices, knowing I am but a youth; I’m set apart for Your glory – I WILL buy the truth! Walking in Jesus’ footsteps, clinging wholly to Your Word; I want to be drawn ever closer to You, my Lord. Searching the Scriptures daily, taking what applies to me; Knowing that I have Your promise: the truth will make me free. From my heart, I lift this earnest prayer up to You, Lord: Grant me Your wisdom, that we may both be in one accor...

When The Enemy Comes In Like A Flood - Poem For Oct 13

When The Enemy Comes In Like A Flood When the enemy comes in like a flood, Deliver me by Your mighty hand; With Your armour girded around me tight, Lord, teach me this day how to stand. Let me lift up a standard against them - The banner of Your great love; Let my enemies flee before Your face; Let them see my help comes from above! The name of the Lord is my strong tower; He is my Rock, my fortress, my shield; The Lord Jesus Christ is my great Deliverer - He bares His holy arm, and my enemies yield. When I hear the sound of a trumpet blowing, In my heart, I know there is a call to fight - But the battle is not mine alone to wage; The Lord will give victory this night. Put our singers out in front of the rest, Praise the name of our Mighty God; Watch as He scatters all of our dreaded foes - Worship our Saviour, and be awed. Jesus, in You alone is my help found, For You have all glory, majesty, and power; With faith in Your Almighty strength, dear Lord, In You, I have victor...

The Hand That Held It Was Not Seen - Poem For Oct 12

I really like the poem for today. I hope it is a blessing to you too. The following poem was taken from chapter 11 of  A Minister's Obstacles . I am not sure if the author of the book is also the author of the poem. The Hand That Held It Was Not Seen He held the lamp that Sabbath day So low that none could miss the way, And yet so high, to bring to sight That picture fair of Christ the Light, That, gazing up, the lamp between The hand that held it was not seen. He held the pitcher, stooping low, To lips of little ones below; Then raised it to the weary saint, And bade him drink when sick and faint. They drank, the pitcher them between, The hand that held it was not seen. He blew the trumpet soft and clear, That trembling sinners need not fear; And then with louder note and bold, To storm the walls of Satan's hold; The trumpet coming thus between, The hand that held it was not seen. And when our Captain says, 'Well done, Thou good and faithful servant; come, Lay down the pi...
