A One-Time Dedication Or Dying Daily? - Devotional For Dec 1

A One-Time Dedication Or Dying Daily? Romans 12:1-2   I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. I remember as a younger believer being exhorted to obey Romans 12:1 - and it was taught as a one-time act of dedication. You know, first you get saved, and then somewhere down the road you give yourself wholly to the Lord. These are the two main decisions that you need to make spiritually. (Obviously salvation is THE most important decision.) But I was just thinking about that mentality - it almost brings a dangerous complacency. "Yeah, I gave my all on the altar 10 years ago (though I've since taken back some areas...)." Rather, I think rather the exhortation is to give ourselves  daily , t...

Be Ye Transformed - Devotional For Nov 30

Sorry I did not post anything yesterday. There was a bit of sickness going through my household. Be Ye Transformed (Romans 12:2) Romans 12:2 And be not  conformed  to this world: but be ye  transformed  by the  renewing  of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Conformed  - the word is Strong's #4964 and means "to fashion alike, i.e. conform to the same pattern". This is referring to the external condition or outward appearance of something. We are not to be fashioned together according to the likeness of this world, according to the course or philosophy of this present age. 1 Peter 1:14-15 As obedient children, not  fashioning yourselves according to  the former lusts in your ignorance: But as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Fashions and philosophies change, but God's Word never does! Let's not imitate the things of the world (the fads, the fas...

Set My Soul Afire - Hymn For Oct 24

I had forgotten how challenging this hymn was until we sang it in church on Sunday. Set My Soul Afire (Hymn by Gene Bartlett) Set my soul afire, Lord, for Thy holy Word, Burn it deep within me, let your voice be heard; Millions grope in darkness, in this day and hour, I will be Your witness, fill me with Thy pow’r. Chorus: Set my soul afire, Lord, set my soul afire, Make my life a witness of Thy saving pow’r. Millions grope in darkness, waiting for Thy Word, Set my soul afire, Lord, Set my soul afire. Set my soul afire, Lord, for the lost in sin, Give to me a passion as I seek to win; Help me not to falter, never let me fail, Fill me with Thy Spirit, let Thy will prevail. Set my soul afire, Lord, in my daily life, Far too long I’ve wondered in this day of strife; Nothing else will matter but to live for Thee. I will be Your witness as You live in me.   Set My Soul Afire

Through This Valley - Poem for Sept 23

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:4 Through This Valley There's a shadow looming over me, and the pain is often near; There's a storm cloud on the horizon, and the thunder causes fear; But in the midst of this uncertainty, MY LORD IS ALWAYS HERE! Through this Valley, with these tears, walking onward I go, Not running in a hurry, nor lagging behind too slow; For there's a peace within my heart - MY LORD IS HERE - I KNOW! The journey can't be much longer - oh, this body aches and moans; Though just around another corner, ahead is my eternal home; And I know within THIS Valley, I AM NOT WALKING ALONE! There's a hand that I am holding, though the path is rough and steep; There's a promise that I can cling to, that I know my Lord will keep - FOR THE LORD IS STILL MY SHEPHERD, AND I AM STILL HIS SHEEP! Oh, what is that on the horizon? A glimpse of gol...

Mother's Day In Heaven - Poem for Sept 23

Yesterday marked 18 years since my Mom went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. This poem was written to mark the first Mother's Day since she went home to glory. To hear this poem presented in church, please visit the link below. Mother's Day In Heaven It's your first Mother's Day in Heaven - I'm so thankful that you're not alone; As you behold the face of our Saviour, And are blessed to worship at His throne. Mom, I would love to send you flowers, Though their fading glory could not compare To the beautiful sights and sounds of Heaven, And your very own mansion over there. I never thought so much about Heaven, As I have since you've gone home to that place - Oh Mom, I miss you so very much, And I long to see your precious face. You see, this earthly home now seems more empty - Its glitter and glamour can no more impress; For Heaven is the place of God's truest riches - Where our Father only keeps the best! Since you turned and trusted in the Saviour...
